A Celebration of Courage./Una Celebración de Valor.
The teacher takes some of the children of the class on the bus to downtown Los Angeles, where they march with their signs. Carlos proudly holds his sign as high as he can. His teacher, Miss Lopez, tells Carlos, “This is a celebration of courage.” After three weeks, the strike is over and the janitors finally get the respect and pay raises they deserved. Now, Carlos’s mother no longer has to clean houses and wash clothes during weekends and can spend them with her son. One Saturday, she tells Carlos that she must go to help the strike of the workers who clean hotel rooms. Carlos takes his sign down from the wall and goes with her to join the hotel workers on their picket line, shouting “ ¡SI, SE PUEDE!” – “YES, WE CAN!”
